Volunteers have been at the very heart of Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association since our beginning in 1899. As a volunteer for our agency you would become an essential part of our team. We will provide you with the necessary support and training so that you will feel prepared and comfortable with the role that you select as a volunteer.
What activities can a Volunteer assist with?
- Facilitate Grief Support Groups
- Give Reiki, Massage, or Therapeutic Touch
- Help at a Flu or Dental Clinic
- Serve on a fundraising committee
- Assist staff with office work (filing, mailings, etc.)
- Providing companionship to hospice patients
- Run errands for hospice patients
- Cook meals at the Hospice House
- Read to hospice patients
- Hold a hand and lend a listening ear
- Gardening at the Hospice House
What type of training is provided?
Volunteering for Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association often involves patient or family encounters. Because of this, we provide a 10-session training program for our volunteers so that they will be comfortable and prepared with the tasks at hand.
Training includes education about some of the following topics:
- Physical problems of the Terminally Ill
- The Hospice Family – Family Dynamics
- History and Philosophy of Hospice
- The Many Faces of Grief
- Spiritual Care in Hospice

Jane Bunker was recognized with the Tony Lomartire Volunteer Award at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for her commitment and dedication to Hospice House patients and their families. Since 1995, Jane has donated over 5000 volunteer hours to the Hospice House and the community.
This was the third year of the volunteer award. Tony Lomartire was a volunteer with Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association for 27 years until he passed away in 2007. A Hospice Remembrance Wall inscription in his memory reads “CRVNA Honors Tony Lomartire, a good man, a kind soul, a gentle spirit.”
